Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Redlands Primary School, we are dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of every child. We provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where all children are valued, respected, and encouraged to thrive.
Two members of staff – Colleen Whiteway (Inclusion Lead) and Christian Lim (Headteacher) – are trained as Senior Mental Health Leads, ensuring the school has the expertise to embed a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Mental health education is an integral part of our curriculum. It is explicitly taught through our progressive and age-appropriate PSHE curriculum and reinforced through subjects such as RE, Science, and PE, helping children build the knowledge and skills they need to understand and manage their mental health.
We use the language of mental health openly to reduce stigma and foster a culture of care and understanding. Guided by our core values of Diversity, Inclusion, and Aspiration, we celebrate individuality, ensure every voice is heard, and encourage all children to believe in their potential. Our assemblies and wider curriculum reinforce key themes such as resilience, empathy, respect, and celebrating difference.
When additional support is needed, staff provide tailored care and work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure each child receives the right help at the right time. Children are encouraged to talk to any trusted adult if they are worried or need support, ensuring no child feels alone during challenging times.
At Redlands, we are committed to helping our children grow into confident, self-aware, and compassionate individuals who can face the future with resilience, understanding, and optimism.
